Heliospheric Weather Expert Service Centre - Archive Plot Browser |
The H-ESC Archive Plot Browser control interface is shown in the figure below. Clicking on the one of the controls in the figure will take you to the corresponding description on this page.
Plot Type | The pull down menu allows you to select the product to be displayed. Only a single product can be selected for display at a time but it is possible to have several browser windows each showing different plot types. Return to Top |
CycleProduct (^) |
This control will select and request the next product (equivalent to using
the pull down menu and then pressing Submit). The set of products to be cycled through depends on which product is currently selected.
|
Submit | Once changes have been made to the Product, Number of Plots etc. The Submit button can be used to apply these changes and request the required plot from the server. Return to Top |
Date | Use the Year, Month and Day pull down menus to select the date of the plot being requested. You must use the Submit button to apply the changes and request the new plot. |
Period | Use the Period pull down menu to select the corresponding hour for the product. It is important to remember that the time corresponds to the time at which the snapshot of the product was generated. Depending on the product the actual time coverage will vary from some days before up to a number of days into the future (in the case of forecast products). Return to Top |
Earliest (|<) | This will display the earliest plot available for the currently selected product Return to Top |
Previous (<), Block Previous (<<) and Nudge Previous ({) | These controls are used to select the previous plot. Normally only the standard
(<) control is displayed which will step back one (or skip) plot. Please note that
in this context the previous plot is in terms of the time sequence and not the
plots that have previously been displayed. You can use your browsers 'Back'
button to look at previously displayed plots.
The block previous (<<) control will only be shown when the number of plots setting (see Advanced Features) is greater than one. In this case the standard (<) control will just shuffle the plots back by skip, adding one new plot at the start and dropping the last plot from the bottom. The (<<) control will rewind by the number of plots on the page so that the last plot on the new page will correspond to the plot just prior to the first plot on the current page. The nudge previous ({) control will only be shown when the number of skipped plots is greater than 1. In this case the first plot will step back by one plot. Return to Top |
Next (>), Block Next (>>) and Nudge Next (}) | These controls are used to select the next plot. Normally only the standard
(>) control is displayed which will step forward one plot. The block next (>>) control will only be shown when the number of plots setting (see Advanced Features) is greater than one. In this case the standard (>) control will just shuffle the plots forward by one, adding one new plot at the end and dropping the first plot from the top. The (>>) control will go forward by the number of plots on the page so that the first plot on the new page will correspond to the plot just after the last plot on the current page. The nudge next (}) control will only be shown when the number of skipped plots is greater than 1. In this case the first plot will step forward by one plot. Return to Top |
Latest (>|) | This will display the latest plot available for the currently selected product. See also 'Latest' under advanced features. Return to Top |
Reset | The Reset control returns the plot number and size settings to their default values and selects the default product. Return to Top |
Number of Plots | By default a single plot is displayed at a time and the date selection or forward/backward
controls are used to select a different plot period. By typing a number between
2 and 50 a sequential set of plots will be displayed as a single document (note
that all plots will be of the same plot type). The cadence for all plots is not the same and therefore the result
in terms of the total time period covered by the sequence of plots will differ depending on the plot type. When the number of plots is greater than one, two additional buttons will be displayed ( <<, >> ). These can be used for navigating blocks of plots. Return to Top |
Skip plots | By default when the next plot is requested the next plot in the sequence will be displayed. For example if the product is provided hourly the plot for product captured one hour later will be displayed. Often this level of granularity is not required. By setting the # skip value to something other than 1 then that number of plots will be skipped prior to showing the next product. This will be applied whether you are seeking forward or backwards. The cadence for all plots is not the same and therefore the interval skipped for a given setting will differ depending on the plot type. When the number of skip value is greater than one, two additional buttons will be displayed ( {, } ). These can be used to nudge the plot sequence forwards or backwards by one plot interval rather than by the skip interval. Return to Top |
Plot Size |
This option can be used to vary the relative plot size and can take a value
between 0.01 and 4.0. This can be used in conjunction with the Number of Plots
option to fit more plots on a page or if you are comparing with data from another
source in order to get the scales to match. Please note that this works by changing
the HTML <IMG> WIDTH attribute, which means that the re-scaling of the
image is done within the client browser. Be aware that if you set the size much above 1 then the plot will exceed the width of the portal IFrame and a horizontal scroll bar will be displayed at the bottom of the page. You may need to scroll vertically in order to see this scroll bar. Return to Top |
