Heliospheric Weather Expert Service Centre - CME TimeLine |
The CME TimeLine (CMETL) provides an interactive way of retrospectively reviewing CME and other heliospheric event occurrences that were identified within the H-ESC. When and where available in-situ data is used to assess the accuracy of the original forecasts and provide additional comments. In some cases these extra data may not be available until a considerable time after the original event.
On entering the CMETL page an introductory view will be displayed. This consists of three parts i) the content area at the top and ii) the timeline navigator at the bottom and iii) the month selector at the bottom. The content area will initially display an introductory slide for the current month. Controls will appear at the left and right edges of the area to step forwards or back through the events for the current month.

The timeline navigator consists of one or more rows indicating specific classifications of events. The timeline itself can be "clicked-and-dragged" to the left or right to find a particular interval or day of interest. The three buttons on the left of the timeline navigator allow you, from top to bottom, to zoom-in, zoom-out and return to the introductory page.
Events are marked on the timeline as flags which may be clicked to navigate directly to the content for that event. Events of interest or where there is additional information available will be highlighted. The actual information to be displayed for each event will vary depending on the type of event and the information available at the time.
The calendar at the bottom of the screen allows quick navigation to particular months for which information is available. The symbols show the number of CMEs for Mercury-Venus-Earth-Mars (e.g. 1-1-0-0) that were identified by the H-ESC during that month.
The default presentation for a CME event consists of the DBM geometry visualisation of the CME propagation within the ecliptic plane and indicating likely intercepts with solar system targets. The CME properties as determined by the Met Office forecasters are provided together with the forecaster guidance information in cases where an intercept or near miss were predicted. Links to additional information (such as the corresponding archive browser page for the interval) may also be provided where relevant.
